How you doin' / 你好不好 is a key visual system created for the 2024 Microwave International New Media Arts Festival. The project translates contemporary urban emotional states into a series of character-based visual identities, each shaped by distinct facial expressions, textures, and color schemes. By pairing emotional traits with contrasting color compositions, the design reflects the psychological diversity of modern city life—ranging from anxiety and pressure to numbness and self-protection. The visual language aims to make invisible emotions tangible, prompting viewers to pause and confront a simple yet often overlooked question: “How are you?” Through its modular characters and adaptable color system, the project constructs a cohesive yet emotionally expansive identity for the festival, offering a fresh perspective on mental health awareness in urban culture.
